In collaboration with Tacoma Community House, the new Tacoma Connections Choir is being formed to build relationships and understanding through music. This non-auditioned group invites members of the community to sing side-by-side with participants from the Tacoma Community House ESL programs and other partner groups. These participants include refugees and immigrants and others who desire to create music, learn English and make friends in the community, as well as more established residents of Tacoma who offer mentorship and friendship.

Led by Erin Guinup, this group will have their first performances on September 15th at the Third Thursday Artwalk at 6:30pm at the Museum of Glass and a Citizenship Ceremony on September 17th at 9:30am at Mount Tahoma High School. There is no admission fee for either performance. The program includes The Star Spangled Banner, Do-Re-Mi, Man in the Mirror and When You Believe.

Moving forward, the choir will welcome more choir members as well as community groups who wish to partner in fostering dialogue through music. We believe that music is an international language and that greater understanding and cooperation can happen when people sing together.
